Coastival Predicted to be Huge Success by Current Ticket Sales
05th Jan 2009
Visitors to Scarborough Hotels for the Coastival Festival are in for a treat as organisers predict this as the busiest year of Coastival as they have been “swamped” with requests for brochures for the three-day event in February, which has attracted nationwide interest.
Rock enthusiasts have snapped up tickets to see headline act Feeder, who play at Scarborough Spa as part of the extravaganza of music, comedy, theatre, film, dance and spoken word.
Coastival organiser Wendy Clews told the Scarborough Evening News: “We still have some tickets available for Feeder but they are going fast and we have been very excited by the response.
“Since the launch of the Coastival brochure we have been inundated with requests for copies, not just in Scarborough and the rest of Yorkshire but all over the country.
“Interest in Coastival is building now and more and more people are hearing about it and deciding it is something not to be missed.”
The festival boasts 96 events at 30 varied venues and many of them are free.
Musical highlights include a Valentine’s Day jazz line-up on Saturday February 14 at the Spa including the Julia Wray Quartet, Snake Davis, Helen Watson, Bourbon Y Tequila and Clare Teal.
The following day sees a mini world musical festival at the same venue with Baka Beyond, Samay and the Hassan Erraji Trio.
During the weekend there will be an Acoustic lounge at the Spa with musicians including Chris Helme, Carl Woodford, Jon Gomm and Edwina Hayes.
Meanwhile the The Royal Hotel Scarborough hosts a weekend of music.
Lovers of the spoken word can enjoy Sunday lunch with novelist Jane Gardam, an evening of poetry or some intrigue with Sophie Hannah.
Theatre is catered for via Third Angel’s performance, Class of ‘76, alongside a series of performance workshops.
Coastival kicks off with a lantern parade setting off from the Rotunda on Friday February 13 at 5pm and winding its way down to the Spa.
