Scalby Fair Opens with a Top Performance!

This week Scalby Village, where our Wrea Head Country House Hotel is located, will be playing host to a week-long celebration.

This years Scalby Fair will have a ‘By The Seaside’ theme and the full programme of events will again be varied and packed for residents and guests staying at Scarborough hotels to enjoy.

The fair kicked off this Sunday with the Tony Peers Variety Spectacular at Scalby Village Hall and throughout this week various events will be taking place, including:

Monday 15th June 2009

NAGS HEAD CHALLENGE RUN

Juniors (under 14’s) – A race of just under 2 miles around Scalby village. Entry is free and registration is at the Nags Head by 6:15 p.m. All welcome. A variety of prizes to be won!

Adults (14 and over) – A four and a half mile challenge from the Nags Head, Scalby to Scalby Nabs. Entry is free and registration takes place from 6:00 p.m. with the race starting at 7:00 p.m. Club members and amateurs welcome – A variety of prizes to be won!

Tuesday 16th June 2009

FAMILY TREASURE HUNT

This event is an exciting and challenging treasure hunt around Scalby Village and is great fun for all the family. Entry is only 50p per person and £1 per family. Registration from 6:00p.m. outside the Nags Head, Scalby.

Wednesday 17th June 2009

WINE TASTING AND BARBEQUE EVENING

Enjoy tasting your favourite and new wines in the friendly atmosphere of the beer garden at The Nags Head (indoors if wet). Here you will be able to listen to the comments and advice from our wine enthusiast and improve your knowledge as part of an evening of entertainment. Entrance fee of £7.00 for adults covers all wine and is accompanied with delicious hot food. Wine Tasting starts at 7.00pm.

PATRICK DEAN AT THE NAGS HEAD

A great night of fun and music performed by Scarborough’s vocal sensation Patrick Dean. Starts at 7.30pm and admission is free. BBQ food is also available.

Friday 19th June 2009

FLOWER FESTIVAL GRAND OPEN EVENING

This evening of musical entertainment marks the start of the 2009 flower festival. The theme of the Festival is “By the Sea” and the flower arrangers will be on hand to talk through their displays and give useful tips and advice. The music and singing will be performed by local artists and will be followed by a buffet and glass of wine. The Grand Open Evening will take place at St Laurence’s Church at 7.30pm and tickets are priced at £6.00. The tickets are available from The Church and from Scalby Village outlets.

The Flower Festival continues at the following times:

Saturday 20th June 10.00am – 5.00pm
Sunday 21st June 12.00noon – 5.00pm
Monday 22nd June 10.00am – 5.00pm

SCALBY FAIR DAY 2009

This afternoon Traditional Fair, along Scalby High Street, will have over 50 stalls from local organisations including:

- Arts and Crafts
– Tombola
– Delicious Hot Food
– Ice Cream
– Children’s Entertainment
– Small Fair Rides

Entry to the Fair is free and the day features Live Music, Morris Dancers, Irish Dancers and Scarborough’s Dance Warehouse. This years theme is “By the Seaside” and children are invited to dress up for the fancy dress competition which will be judged by the Mayor and there will be a variety of prizes to be won.

OPEN AIR CELEBRATION SERVICE

Everyone is welcome to join the congregation in the car park of the Church Rooms at St Laurence’s Church for a music and thanksgiving starting at 10.30am.

It is hoped that this years Scalby Fair really will have something for everyone to enjoy.
